Step 1: Download Audacity
- Download Audacity for Mac.
- You will see the following screen.
- Click System Requirements if you are not sure whether your computer will run Audacity.
- Click the respective link for your Mac OS and hardware.
- For most users, this should be Mac OS X (Intel).
Step 2: Install Audacity
TO DOWNLOAD Lame and FFmpeg for Windows, click links BELOW: The Audacity(r) QA Team suggests users download the ZIP version instead of the.EXE or.DMG (for Mac) versions. If you use the installers, and Audacity does not detect LAME, download the ZIP option, extract the files inside to a well known folder, then open Audacity, go to Library.
- Open (double click) the Audacity disk image (.dmg) file. This will mount the Audacity virtual drive. Your browser may have already done this for you.
- Drag and drop the Audacity icon to the Applications folder.
- Delete the Audacity disk image (.dmg) and eject the Audacity virtual drive.
Step 3: Download LAME encoder
- LAME is a high quality MPEG Audio Layer III (MP3) encoder licensed under the LGPL. Latest LAME release: v3.100 (October 2017) LAME development started around mid-1998. Mike Cheng started it as a patch against the 8hz-MP3 encoder sources. After some quality concerns raised by others, he decided to start from scratch based on the dist10 sources.
- The encoder is not a graphical application that you can double-click, but a command-line tool, usable from the Terminal application (which lives in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder) or other graphical applications. Lame for Mac Download LAME is an encoder.
Why do I have to install the LAME encoder?

Downloads – LAME (mp3) and FFMEG (mp4) libraries
Lame Encoder Exe
Here’s a quick post for all the necessary codecs/library you might need to work with MP3 and MP4 videos in Windows/MAC. Software like Reaper.fm, Audacity, etc. need to have these libraries installed separately because of copyrights. I realized it wasn’t easy to find so I thought I’d simplified people’s life and make all the files available here.
The websites is old, I know, but the resources are working, and it’s all we should care about. Heck, I couldn’t find elsewhere a working LAME 64bit library…

FFMEG (mp4 videos)
Mirror
Just in case the link/website should die or if you just want to download everything at once, here are the mirrored files via my MediaFire account:
LAME Encoder
If your software requires the LAME MP3 encoder (usually lame.exe), here it is: http://www.free-codecs.com/Lame_Encoder_download.htm Software like Foobar2000 will require this encoder to rip/convert audio files to MP3.
